Sam Winstanley

Archaeological Surveyor

Sam started his commercial career in 2022, working across the UK as a field archaeologist for Museum of London Archaeology. During his time there, he began to specialise in GPS survey, carrying out on-site survey for numerous projects. Sam later went on to become a Senior Field Archaeologist for University of Cambridge’s commercial unit (CAU), before joining PCA in 2025 under the role of Archaeological Surveyor. Sam is responsible for conducting surveys of archaeological sites using GPS and TST equipment, as well as delivering formal training to PCA’s field team. His responsibilities also include the processing of survey data through Geographic Information Systems to produce archaeological resources and plans. In his spare time, Sam continues his involvement in archaeological fieldwork through helping to supervise community and research excavations.
