Petra Ivanova
Human Osteologist
Petra Ivanova holds a Certificate of Higher Education in Egyptology and an undergraduate degree in Archaeology, both from Birkbeck, University of London, and an MSc in Osteoarchaeology from Bournemouth University. During her studies, she gained practical archaeological experience as a trainee on fieldwork projects in England, Scotland, and Romania. She has worked in commercial archaeology since 2017, joining PCA in 2018 as a human osteologist. She subsequently gained extensive experience across a variety of fieldwork and post-excavation projects before undertaking regular osteological work from 2019 onwards.
Since then, she has worked with both small and large skeletal assemblages across numerous archaeological projects, including the analysis of a large Middle–Late Saxon cemetery. She has also contributed to a wide range of osteological reports and site reports, including several publications.
Her research interests focus on the study and interpretation of skeletal pathology, particularly its implications for health and disease in past populations. She has analysed human skeletal remains dating from the Neolithic to the post-medieval period, developing expertise in burial practices, population health, demographic patterns, and lived experiences of past communities.
