Duncan joined PCA in 2018 as an Environmental Assistant, progressing to Environmental Supervisor then Project Officer and Geoarchaeologist. Duncan came into commercial archaeology having initially studied Applied Geology at the Camborne School of Mines in Cornwall, followed by an MSc in Environmental Archaeology focused on the geochemical sampling of a Bronze Age copper ore processing site in North Wales.

Duncan manages the environmental archaeology team at PCA’s London Offices, undertaking much of the environmental processing work from across the regional offices as well as London. He also provides advice on environmental sampling strategies to PCA’s field team and undertakes the collection of specialist samples.

In addition to his management responsibilities, Duncan has also been PCA’s Geoarchaeologist since 2022, undertaking geoarchaeological projects across London and the south of England. His work utilises specialist deposit modelling software in order to interpolate the sub-surface stratigraphy of sites, particularly Holocene and Pleistocene fluvial deposits.

He is also a qualified chainsaw operative, with experience in the sampling of wooden structures and objects on archaeological sites for dendrochronological dating.
